Bringing back a staple from the club’s back catalogue, PUMA launch the Manchester City 22/23 away shirt, which is inspired by Malcolm Allison’s absolute masterclass in the 60’s.

The new Manchester City home shirt arrived with a design that drew inspiration from the Colin Bell-led side of the late 60s and early 70s, and it is this era that PUMA revisit once more for the club’s new away shirt. The new away shirt for 22/23 brings back a design that was made iconic by the class of ’69, although it comes with a contemporary tweak. The shirt was launched at one of the most iconic places to launch anything – live from the NASA space centre in Houston, Texas while the club were on their pre-season tour.

When City took to the road back then, they turned heads with their technically adept football – and their bold new away strip. Conceived by the legendary Malcolm Allison, vertical stripes of red and black proved triumphant at the 1969 FA Cup Final, and the 1970 League Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup finals, earning their place among all-time fan favourites.

Last seen over a decade ago in the 2011/12 season, those red and black stripes now make a return, breathing new energy into a classic design. For the first time, the red and black stripes flow down the jersey at an angle, inspired by the club crest and the three Manchester rivers. It is constructed from ULTRAWEAVE technology, PUMA’s lightest, highest-performance material ever developed. With a base that weighs just 72 grams and a reduced number of seams, the jersey is designed specifically to optimise performance by allowing players complete freedom of movement.
