Following on from the announcement of their new partnership, Adidas reveal the AS Roma 23/24 home shirt, with a design that features iconic elements of the Giallorossi early 1990s jersey, updated with a modern-day style.

After a brief but successful spell with New Balance, Roma start a new chapter with an old friend, with adidas being recently announced as the Giallorossi’s new technical partner. Now, shortly after that announcement, we get the first release, with the drop of the club’s 23/24 home shirt. So, after 30 years, the Three Stripes return to the AS Roma jersey in a design that takes inspiration from the 1990s and specifically the 1992/93 season.

Taking a minimalist and classic approach, the design comes in the club’s traditional colours, featuring a base in the classic red colour enhanced with yellow details, along with the return on the left chest of the Lupetto, the iconic wolf emblem that first featured on the jersey in 1978 and has since become an integral part of the club’s identity.

The neckline has a ribbed V-shape with a yellow trim on a red background, while the Three Stripes descend from the shoulders and are echoed on the shorts. The jersey is made with a swallow-tail hem and finished with a detail on the back of the neck that takes inspiration from the Club’s fans, celebrating one of the most iconic expressions of AS Roma supporters: “Daje Roma Daje” (Come on Rome, come on!).

One point of note is the absence of a sponsor, following the collapse of the club's deal with DigitalBits at the end of last season. Roma replaced the blockchain company's logo with the iconic 'SPQR' callout (a move they famously used on their 2017 Derby Edition shirt from Nike), and that remained in place for the remainder of the 22/23 season – and it instantly elevated the look of what was already a decent looking jersey. And so far there's been no word on a replacement sponsor, but in our eyes that only serves the beautifully minimalist and retro feel of this new design. Probably won't last though, so get it sponsor-free while you can!

Michael Wandell, Chief Commercial and Brand Officer of AS Roma, commented: “As a Club, we are constantly working to find the right balance between the old and the new, the ancient and the modern. The return of our partnership with adidas and the launch of this kit allow us to look back and honour the greatest champions in our club’s history, in a style that simultaneously conveys our ambitions for the future.”
