PUMA have turned up the pace with the preparation of their upcoming boot project by revealing a first look at a prototype edition of the new-generation design. What we're looking at here is an aesthetic that won't hit shelves, but a launch colourway of the boot will do on August 12.

There is one way of getting hold this pair though, so keep reading. The reveal confirms what we already suspected; PUMA are set to have a dedicated speed boot in their line-up for the first time since the evoSPEED series was retired in 2017, with the ONE and Future boots set to be joined by this lightweight innovation. What we're looking at here will be a serious contender in the lightweight boot race, and one PUMA will be unleashing next month.

There’s been a mystery blackout PUMA prototype doing the rounds on the feet of numerous pros for a few months now, but now we know what we're dealing with. And while this specific aesthetic won't be the colourway that kick starts the boot when they go to retail it is essentially the design that will be dressed up as PUMA's first drop ahead of the 20/21 season.

So who will be wearing it? Take your pick from PUMA's pool of talent; Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann, Marco Reus, the list goes on. Naturally it will come down to player preference, but keep your eyes peeled for an on-pitch debut soon.

Sleek, fierce, and undoubtably super lightweight, the upcoming PUMA project is bringing speed back. For a brand that made shoes for the world's fastest man, speed is forever in PUMA's DNA. A first look at the boots reveals a few clues to the new silos identity, but for now the rest will have to wait.
