Looking ahead to the coming campaign, adidas and MLS have unveiled the official match ball for the 2022 season and it will debut at MLS Cup 2021 between the Portland Timbers and New York City FC on Saturday, 11 December in Portland.

Not even done with this season and Major League Soccer and adidas are already looking to the next, unveiling the new match ball for 2022. Both the Eastern and Western Conference teams have battled it out, leaving just New York City and the Portland Timbers respectively, and these two side will battle it out for the ultimate prize in their game, the MLS Cup. And what better place to showcase the new match ball than in that final, which will be hosted at Providence Park in Portland.

Incorporating the national flowers of the United States (rose) and Canada (bunchberry) as well as colours representing the other homelands of MLS players, the new MLS Official Match Ball is a symbol of the league’s extraordinary diversity. Following on from this season's look, the new ball’s design reflects the 860 players of MLS hailing from 79 different countries and highlights the sense of unity and belonging within soccer communities around the globe.

While the design of the Official Match Ball for 2022 celebrates unity, the ball’s technical elements remain consistent with recent editions. Continuing as the most sustainable ball to date, it’s constructed from 100 percent water-based materials and print colours.
