On Sunday 16 October, for the La Liga El Clásico match against Real Madrid, FC Barcelona will be wearing a special kit featuring Drake’s OVO Sound logo to celebrate his achievement of being the first artist to reach 50 billion streams.

Back in March, when the new partnership between Spotify and Barcelona was officially announced, there were rumours circulating that the Swedish audio streaming and media services provider may utilise the sponsor slot on the Catalan club’s shirts to promote artists. However, this did not come to pass, with the brand’s name instead featuring prominently on all three of the La Liga side’s shirts. Until now, that is, with global superstar Drake revealing to his Instagram followers a new sponsor on the Barca home shirt – namely the artist’s OVO Sound logo.

The move is to celebrate Drake becoming the first artist to reach 50 billion streams on Spotify, and the shirt revealed on his Insta post also came complete with the number 50 on the back, acknowledging the milestone. The FC Barcelona squad will be wearing the shirt at this Sunday’s match.

Speaking about the collaboration, Marc Hazan, VP Partnerships, Spotify said: “We were really excited to celebrate one of the biggest games of the year and mark Drake’s milestone as the first artist to reach 50 billion streams. We’ve always said that we want this partnership to be a celebration of fans, players and artists on a global stage – and there’s no bigger stage than El Clásico.
