Taking a touch of inspiration from the 97/98 wardrobe, Chelsea have revealed their new 23/24 home shirt from Nike, which sees the inclusion of white panels under the arms along with an iridescent club crest.

The 1997/98 season kicked off a successful era for Chelsea; they picked up the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and the League Cup, and that was followed by the UEFA Super Cup at the start of the following season. It saw the likes of Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Wise, Roberto Di Matteo and many other club legends playing their part, all under the management of the great Gianluca Vialli and all played wearing the same iconic shirt. Now, Nike nod to that design with Chelsea’s new home shirt for the 23/24 season.

Arriving in a traditional blue base, it sees white panels under the arms – a feature lifted straight from the shirt from the late 90s. As well as looking to the past though, the shirt also brings its own bit of swagger to the table in the form of an iridescent club crest and Swoosh. The sharp eyed amongst you will notice that something’s missing though… that’s right, if you hadn’t guessed it already, the shirt has been unveiled sans a front of shirt sponsor. Unlike the Roma home shirt, which was also recently revealed without a sponsor, this one feels a little like its lacking something as a result, leaving it looking more like a training shirt. The sponsor could well make or break this design, so until then, we’re holding our judgement.
