Drawing inspiration from the club’s deep-rooted connection with Sweden, Boca Juniors have revealed their new third shirt from Adidas, which will be in use throughout 2024 and into 2025.

Right, ready for a quick history lesson? Here goes… Boca Juniors took a little while to settle on their traditional and iconic look. The first shirt that the team wore back in 1905 featured thin black vertical stripes on a white background. Later that same year, they changed to a Celeste (sky blue) shirt, and then the year after that they wore a shirt with thin blue vertical stripes. In 1906, Boca played against Nottingham de Almagro, who had a similar shirt. Boca lost the match, and as a result, they decided to adopt the colours of the flag of the first ship to sail into port. That ship was the Swedish Drottning Sophia, hence Boca’s “Azul y Oro” (blue and gold/yellow).

Right, now that we’re up to speed, the new third shirt arrives with a deep navy base teaturing a yellow/gold graphic based on the Nordic-cross-based Flag of Sweden, centred on the right side of the chest and the Three Stripes logo.  The shirt design then sees lighter blue shoulder stripes to offer an alternative contrast to the yellow.

The interesting point with this kit though is the fact that the core colours don’t really differ all that much from the club’s home shirt, rendering its purpose somewhat obsolete. Still, you can guarantee that it will get a run out, likely in one of the club’s upcoming fixtures.
