They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and after a 27-year separation adidas and Club Atlético Boca Juniors rekindle their relationship, launching both the home and away kit for the 2020/21 season in a double dose of delight that appears to have been well worth the wait.

Boca Juniors and adidas previously enjoyed a successful partnership between 1979 and 1993, but since that time Nike stepped in to forge a strong alliance with the Argentinian side that lasted for 23 years. Now that is over and adidas have returned, and for their first Boca kits in 27 years they’ve really pulled out all the stops, with both the home and away options being among the first professional shirts to utilise the brand's new AeroReady technology, which provides better ventilation and more cooling.

Design-wise, the home kit takes a traditional approach with the iconic horizontal yellow band on a blue background. The Three Stripes then complement that band, appearing in the same yellow on the shoulders, while another flash of yellow appears on the sleeves, forming the traditional Xeneizes flag. With the Three Stripes back in place, it’s a look that’s instantly reminiscent of the jerseys from the late 70s and early 80s, as worn by one Diego Armando Maradona. The home kit is set to debut in the upcoming game against Universitario on 16 January.

For the away kit, white is used for the base of the canvas, reinterpreting one of the iconic away uniforms worn by the club in the 90s. A bold graphic dominates the centre of the shirt, reproducing the colours of the club flag once more in a broad strip across the chest. The three stripes on the shoulders and the rounded neck are blue.
