Who said laces are dead? PUMA are hitting 2018 hard with the launch of their next-generation concept. Introducing the PUMA FUTURE 18.1 NETFIT, and we're not sure if you're even ready for this yet.

Every now and again an innovation drops that questions the written rules of football boot design, and that's what we've got here with the Future 18.1. This doesn't feel like no normal boot release. This is different. This is taking customisable fit to new levels.

After teasing the Future 18.1 concept in an all-black design PUMA have launched a limited edition run of the "Black/Yellow" colourway featured here, ahead of the silo hitting shelves in early 2018. This limited edition drop will be worn for the first time by Antoine Griezmann during the Madrid derby this weekend. But you wanna know about those laces, don't you?

Let's get to it. What we're looking at on the Future 18.1 is NETFIT technology – this is the yellow net material on top of the upper that allows the player to lace their boots in any way they want, in order to get the best possible fit, no matter the shape of the foot. Clever, eh?

The NETFIT is fused to the evoKNIT sock and striking zones to create a one form-fitting textile base layer. In short, it's a knitted, collared, super-lightweight, completely customisable silo that looks aggressive AF. Arguably PUMA's strongest looking boot in recent time.

Downstairs there's the brand new RAPIDAGILITY outsole, made of super lightweight and reactive PEBAX with a mix of conical and bladed studs that are designed to bring the best results in traction and stability.

The Future will replace the evoPOWER as PUMA look towards the 2018 World Cup, and the new generation silhouette will be backed up by the One 17.1 series as the brand hit up Russia with a pacey two-punch combo. In an era of laceless boot we're starting to question whether laces were ever the problem? Or were we just doing it all wrong?
