New Balance up the tempo for 2019 by releasing limited edition versions of the Tekela V1 and Furon V5. Dubbed the ‘Lite Shift Pack’, it sees the lightweight Furon V5 given a blue colourway with a light speed design across the upper, while the Tekela is given an entirely contrasting red look.

For the second pack of the year, the Tekela and Furon go their separate ways. The first release saw the pair drop together in black and emerald green looks, but this time they are on opposite sides of the footballing divide: Furon in the blue corner and the Tekela in the red – both with that extra bit of aesthetic that moves the pack into limited edition space.

It’s yet another bold look for New Balance, especially with the Furon, which sees a motion graphic across the blue upper that’s reminiscent of the effects used for light speed travel in sci-fi films. And that’s not by accident: the speed of light happens to be 1079 billion kilometres per hour and New Balance are releasing 1079 pairs of each of the limited edition Furon V5 and Tekela V1 worldwide.

The Furon undoubtedly gets the most attention of the pair, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Liverpool’s Senegalese attacker, Sadio Mane. Flip the boot over and the impressive design continues on the soleplate, with a red heel fading into the dark forefoot.
