Passing the crown from one generation to the next, PUMA launch the King Platinum RL for Romelu Lukaku, a special signature edition that pays homage to the iconic boot that the big Belgian’s father used to wear back in his playing days in the 90s.

Romeu Lukaku has begun a new chapter in his playing career with Inter Milan, and he’s doing so with a new pair of signature-edition PUMA Kings. Created in homage to his father, Roger Lukaku, who used to wear Kings back in his playing days in Belgium, the new King Platinum RL is a similar beast to the recently released King Platinum, adding some white detailing for a more classic look.

From a technology perspective, the King Platinum RL is the same as the standard Platinum, so it still boasts the same premium K-Leather upper with a 3D ‘touch’ texture. But it’s in the addition of the white detailing through the upper and most notably on the super-lightweight ‘RAPIDSPRINT’ soleplate, which is completely white, that the differences appear. This is a look that is far more reminiscent of the boot Roger Lukaku would have worn in the early 90s, only it’s primed to play in the modern day.

Lukaku signed for PUMA in June 2018 and has been wearing the ONE silo ever since. It’s unclear if he’ll be making the switch to the King Platinum RL going forward, but he's currently still training with his new Inter team mates in the "Anthem Pack" ONE 5.1.

Talking about the new boots, Lukaku said: “Indirectly I feel connected with the shoes. My Dad was wearing these shoes scoring goals with the these in the Belgium First Division. In the year I was born in ’93, he was wearing these shoes basically."

At a later age me and my dad would wear the same size shoe. For a good 3 to 4 years we used to share boots. It’s nice to see the new version of these compared to the version my father would wear. Now, 25 years later, I sign with PUMA and they’re bringing out the shoe from the same year."

The PUMA King Platinum RL football boots are only available in size 9. Not that Rom could squeeze into a 9. He's at least a 14. Anyway, they're available now at prodirectsoccer.com
