PUMA got their creative game on again this week with another graphic design on the evoSPEED 1.3 model. Inspired by the Japanese dragon – a symbol for power, wisdom and agility, the boot was worn by a number of PUMA athletes this weekend, including Antoine Griezmann, Sergio Aguero and a stack of Arsenal's PUMA contingent.
Samir Carruthers (MK Dons) Nike Magista Obra
MK Dons kept their automatic promotion hopes from League One alive this week with wins over Doncaster and Rochdale. The pick of the boot spotting action came from Dons midfielder Samir Carruthers who was sporting his custom Nike Magista Obra design, an all red upper with volt Swooshes and Dynamic Fit Collar.
Zinedine Zidane (UNDP) adidas Predator Instinct
Zinedine Zidane took part in the 12th annual Match Against Poverty this week. Wearing as close a colourway as possible to his beloved traditional Predator boot, Zidane was representing the United Nations Development Programme team that took on the St Etienne All Stars. Zidane & Ronaldo's side were defeated 9-7 in the star-studded charity match.
Fernando Torres (Atletico Madrid) adidas Primeknit 2.0
The second-generation adidas Primeknit has advanced immensely since the Samba Primeknit drop last year and on the back of the release this week a number of adidas players switched into the new silo, labelled by adidas as 'the world's best fitting boot'. The last Primeknit was worn in one game by one player, the new one however has reeled in far more players, some of whom have remained in the boots for back to back games, including Fernando Torres.
Peter Odemwingie (Stoke City) Mizuno Morelia Neo
Peter Odemwingie made his first appearance since August at the weekend after a long injury lay-off. The Stoke City striker has since swapped the Swoosh for Mizuno to finally leave the medical room as he laced up in the Morelia Neo as Stoke drew 1-1 with Premier League strugglers Sunderland on Saturday.
Alessandro Gazzi (Torino) adidas World Cup
Alessandro Gazzi was keeping things old school at the weekend wearing a pair of adidas World Cups. One of the most recognisable sole-plates in the game, six studs, classic adidas trefoil logo, all the beautiful ingredients of success. For a boot so distinguished it's good to see a player competing in a top-league still approving it fit for elite level football.
Johannes Geis (Mainz) Nike Magista Obra
From one extreme to another. Johannes Geis was another player sporting a custom Magista Obra design this week, opting for full on-pitch visibility with an all over bright volt paint job in his side's 2-0 Bundesliga victory over Schalke. Unmissable design, if he has a good game, he's going to stand out, if he has a bad game, he's going to stand out even more.
Bjorn Kvarme (St Etienne All Stars) adidas Predator Absolute
With Zidane and Ronaldo on show in the Match Against Poverty it was always going to be hard to stand out but ex-St Etienne player Bjorn Kvarme managed to do so by lacing up in the adidas Predator Absolute from 2007. One of the most popular modern Predators the Absolute was the penultimate Pred to feature a fold-over elasticated tongue.
James Rodriguez (Real Madrid) adidas Primeknit 2.0
From Golden Boot to knitted boot. James Rodriguez remained in the Primeknit 2.0 for Real Madrid's 4-2 win over Celta Vigo on Sunday night after debuting them in midweek in the Madrid derby. The player uptake is a testament to the technological advancements adidas have introduced to the silo and they're confident in their latest incarnation by releasing 10,000 pairs of the boot.
Dante (Bayern Munich) Puma evoPOWER 1.2
PUMA completed their 'Dragon' series with the evoSPEED 1.3 last week and Dante has been supplied with a leather version of the evoPOWER 1.2 boot complete with a custom SG sole-plate. The Bayern Munich defender was an avid PUMA King player until the brand pulled their heritage boot away from the pro scene in favour of the evoSPEED and evoPOWER, a controversial but successful move.
Stephanie Bannon (Sunderland) adidas Predator LZ SL
Based on the second-generation LZ model the adidas Predator LZ SL was originally launched in September 2013 weighing 199g. A diet version of the standard edition with a heavier price-tag, the LZ SL had limited player-uptake on the professional scene but Sunderland Ladies captain Stephanie Bannon turned out in a pair at the weekend against Arsenal.
