Giving it a debut to remember, Olympique de Marseille wore their new home kit for the 21/22 season from PUMA on the weekend against Angers, with Arkadiusz Milik grabbing a hat trick in the 3-2 win.

Always a risky proposition, debuting a new shirt at the end of the season. You don’t want to get things off to a bad start with a loss, tainting the new shirt, particularly for those of a somewhat superstitious nature. So thankfully for Marseille, Napoli loanee Arkadiusz Milik brought his shooting boots, firing a hat trick for the Europa League-chasing side. Having led 2-0, it was his nerves of steel that stood the test in the 96th minute to take the three points after being pegged back by Angers. But it’s the shirt we’re here to talk about…

The new kit celebrates a defining period in the club’s history, one where Marseille claimed Domestic glory – one that set them on the road to European victory on the grandest stage of all. Inspired by the shirt worn in the 89/90 season, it comes with five blue stripes on the sleeves instead of the two wider ones seen on the original. The design reinterprets the V-neck that was in vogue at the time, while blue panels on the side of the jersey compliment the stripes, bringing power and fluidity to the jersey. The city’s coat of arms is displayed on the neckline to honour the heritage and history of Marseille.
